THARPEROBBINS HELPS SNYDER’S-LANCE INC. DEVELOP SUCCESSFUL NEW SERVICE AND ANNIVERSARY PROGRAMS

STATESVILLE, N.C., Jan. 23, 2012 – New service and anniversary award programs for Snyder’s-Lance Inc., developed with the help of TharpeRobbins, a global leader in the managed employee reward and recognition industry, are receiving rave reviews from employees while operating at a significant cost reduction from previous programs.

“When Snyder’s of Hanover merged with Lance Inc. about a year ago, one of our initial integration steps was to look at benefits, compensation and other human resource items,” says Chris Ceravalo, director of human resource initiatives for Snyder’s-Lance Inc.  “With TharpeRobbins as a partner, the recognition component was one of the easier items we tackled.”

According to Ceravalo, the previous recognition programs from each company presented opportunities to create a new, combined program that was competitive in the marketplace and used more contemporary best practices for the service award programs.

With TharpeRobbins’ help, the company is now moving towards creating an appropriate recognition moment for every employee. Instead of being handed an envelope with a catalog inside, the revitalized awards program includes a memorable presentation box with a message from the CEO and a Lucite frame that is suitable to be displayed on a desk or used as a picture frame. Employees can now go to a specially designed website to order their rewards.

At TharpeRobbins’ suggestion, Snyder’s-Lance added new recognition levels at one, 45 and 50 years which have all been very well received. Each new level has unique gift options. The goal for each level is to offer an almost limitless number of reward categories so there is literally something for everyone.

“Employees can now choose anything from electronics, to sports items, jewelry and art.  It’s all there,” says Brett Tharpe, President and CEO of TharpeRobbins. “There are plenty of choices so the employees are like a kid in a candy store. They have options and at the same time, if we find that the options aren’t connecting, our team is always adding new and trendier items that folks want.”

The company created anticipation for the new rewards programs using various media: email, inclusion in quarterly videos from the president about the state of the business and integration, town hall meetings, and an internal TV network; all to generate excitement. Multiple communications forums raised awareness and anticipation for the new programs that launched in August 2011.

To date, the employee response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Knowing that TharpeRobbins is a leader in the field of recognition made a world of difference. Our merged company now has a one-stop shop that we can trust for all our recognition needs,” says Ceravalo. “With their help, we were able to update our service and anniversary award programs, introduce new presentation materials and design the programs to be non-taxable, reducing the overall cost of the program while providing improved options for all associates.”
